Student Absences and Attendance

Regular school attendance is essential for student learning, wellbeing, and success. Parents and carers have a responsibility to ensure their child attends school every day unless there is a reasonable excuse.

Reporting a Student Absence

If your child is unable to attend school, parents or carers must notify the school as soon as possible, preferably on the day of the absence.

The preferred and quickest method for reporting an absence is via QParents.

Alternatively, absences can be reported by:

  • Calling the school absence line: (07) 4197 0360

  • Reporting the absence in person at Student Services

All absences must be explained by a parent or carer. Unexplained absences may be followed up by the school in line with Department of Education attendance procedures.

Why Attendance Matters

Regular attendance at school is critical for:

  • Continuity of learning and academic progress

  • Developing positive routines and lifelong habits

  • Building strong relationships with teachers and peers

  • Supporting student wellbeing and engagement

Frequent or unexplained absences can impact a student’s learning and achievement. Schools are required to monitor attendance and work with families to support regular attendance where concerns arise.

Supporting Student Attendance

If your family is experiencing challenges that affect your child’s ability to attend school regularly, we encourage you to contact the school. We are committed to working collaboratively with families to support every student’s attendance and success.
