Parental involvement

At Sandy Strait State School, parental involvement is significant, and welcomed, as part of our 'One School, One Team' philosophy. This philosophy is centered on teachers, parents/caregivers and the community working together to ensure students 'strive for success' and reach their full potential.  We have a tradition of parents volunteering in our school to assist class teachers and students. All parents/caregivers are welcome to provide class support, and this can be negotiated with the class teacher.

Sandy Strait prides itself on its communication with parents, and this involves fortnightly newsletters, Dojo messages, Facebook, regular notes and updates about school procedures/routines, phone calls or emails with parents, and meetings with parents as necessary. Parents are also welcome at our fortnightly assemblies and at our academic award celebrations as we celebrate the achievements and efforts of our student body.

As well as this, all parents are invited to an individual parent-teacher interview once a Semester to discuss their child’s progress within the classroom. These parent-teacher interviews take in discussions about student progress, as well as their child’s social emotional development . The interviews take place at the end of Term 1 and  Term 3 with formal Report Cards issued at the end of Term 2 and Term 4. Parents can also request interviews with specialist teachers assigned to Languages Other Than English, Physical Education and Music.
